Duncan Cameron‘s love of science and fascination with a romantic notion of adventure and collecting greatly influence his work; in particular, his interest in the Victorian scientists, Darwin, Wallace and Bates who waded through uncharted rivers and jungles, armed with leather satchels of brass instruments to discover new plants and creatures. These collections of dead insects, objects from the bottom of a river and sea urchins are housed in cabinets, boxes, shelves and constructs that are recognisable as ‘museum-like’ and familiar, yet are encountered in the street or gallery.
